CCS involves the capture and storage of large volumes of Carbon Dioxide and other Greenhouse Gases (GHGs), typically from large “point-sources” of GHGs - such as power plants, before they can have a detrimental effect on the environment.

While the technologies involved are still largely experimental, commercial interest in developing and marketing these technologies is increasing rapidly.  Many of the concepts used will be adapted and scaled up from existing petrochemical and oilfield technologies.

As with emissions reduction projects, CCS presents a unique risk profile, with heightened technical, political and financial risk, albeit on a much larger scale.
